SON has Four Projects Underway in Jerusalem, the rest of Israel and in the West Bank.
Furnace for School
If you can believe going to school in sub-freezing temperatures, these girls do it year after year in order to secure their education. It matters that much to them. These girls and their teachers wear coats and gloves all day long; they write on the boards, take notes, and study all the while their breath condenses and freezes in front of them.
SON is raising cash to install a furnace for this Muslim girls' school, located in the Jerusalem suburb of Beit Sur ( Beit Suher ). A proper environment for learning includes heating. A member of the Board of Directors for this school is a Jordanian citizen and a life-long resident in Jerusalem who was the head of building and code enforcement officer when Mr. Ehud Olmert was mayor.
$95,000.00Elevator for Jenin Charitable Society Building
Imagine walking up and down four flights of stairs a few times everyday to accomplish your tasks. Tiring, isn't it? The JCS building is multi-functional. It serves as a community house for meetings, as a secondary school and as a school for deaf students as well. Its fourth floor rooms serve as a hostel for visitors in the city. If the staff is to upgrade its service to the community, faster and more effective building services are necessary.
$45,000.00X-Ray Machines and Laboratory Equipment for Scientific Medical Association Clinics
SON raises cash for equipment purchases for 11 Medical Clinics for the Scientific Medical Association. SMA mobile medical drive out to various villages each week delivering the only medical care these villagers will ever see. Two fixed x-ray machines are needed. In addition, a number of routine medical services are lacking because of the lack of laboratory equipment and supplies. The SMA accepts donations of equipment only. We collect the money, purchase the necessary equipment and supplies, and have the vendors install the equipment in the clinics. No cash goes to the SMA.
SON Volunteer Director of Operations for the West Bank, Brynne Sissom , of Irving , TX , rode with some of the SMA vans in 2006, in the region of Hebron and in Jenin. She found the dedication of the drivers and doctors impressive.
